Getting Started

Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, and it's completely normal to have questions or feel a little unsure. Whether you've seen a psychologist before or this is your first experience, my aim is to make the process as straightforward, welcoming, and comfortable as possible.

Booking & Your Appointment

Appointments can be booked online here or by getting in touch via email.

If you're planning to access Medicare rebates, you'll need a valid Mental Health Care Plan and referral from your GP before your appointment. If you already have these, they can be emailed directly to emma@mindpsychologyco.com, or your GP clinic can send them on your behalf.

Once your appointment is confirmed, you'll receive a confirmation email, new client paperwork, and any information you'll need before your session.

Appointments are available both face-to-face at The Co-Lab, 704 Sturt Street, Ballarat Central and via secure telehealth, allowing you to choose the option that best suits your needs.

Preparing for Your First Appointment

There's no "right" way to prepare for therapy.

Some people like to spend a little time reflecting on what has brought them to therapy or what they hope to get out of the process, while others simply arrive and start the conversation from wherever they are. Both are completely okay.

You don't need to have the right words or know exactly where to begin. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we'll work through it together.

Your First Appointment

Your first session is about getting to know one another and building an understanding of what's brought you to therapy.

We'll explore your current concerns, relevant background, what's important to you, and what you hope to gain from therapy. You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions about the process, my approach, or anything else you're unsure about.

It's completely normal if therapy feels a little unfamiliar at first. Many people find it takes a session or two to settle in, and it's often not until you're actually in the room that things begin to feel more comfortable. There is no expectation to share everything straight away - we'll work at a pace that feels right for you.
